The Department of Emergency Medicine provides around-the-clock emergency care to patients in four locations, while also training residents from all specialties how to provide that care. NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, which treats more than 96,000 patients annually, is a Level 1 Trauma Center, a Psychiatric Emergency Receiving Center, a Burn Center for the City of New York, a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center, equipped to handle the entire spectrum of undifferentiated illnesses. The emergency medicine team also provides care at three additional NewYork-Presbyterian hospitals at the Columbia University Medical Center, Lower Manhattan Hospital and The Allen Hospital in northern Manhattan. Educational opportunities include an emergency medicine residency program and fellowships in pediatric emergency medicine and geriatric emergency medicine, among other options.
